# Reproduce and triage a software bug with a local coding agent

> Use Codex CLI or Claude Code on a selected local workspace to reproduce an issue, explain the cause, and prepare a bounded fix.

- Companion: Coding Agent
- Category: Engineering
- Expected outcome: A reproducible issue report, likely cause, focused diff, and test evidence for review.
- Setup time: 15–30 minutes
- Cadence: On demand
- Execution modes: Desktop, Local CLI
- Last reviewed: 2026-10-20

## What you need

- Codex CLI
- Claude Code
- GitHub
- Local workspace

## Permissions

- Read an approved folder
- Run approved development commands
- Edit within the granted workspace

## Safety boundary

The local bridge uses folder grants and Taskilo approvals; destructive or external actions stay blocked.

## Setup

1. **Select the runtime.** Choose an authenticated Codex CLI or Claude Code installation on this computer.
2. **Grant one folder.** Give Taskilo access only to the repository needed for this issue.
3. **Set command policy.** Allow safe test commands and require approval for sensitive actions.
4. **Review the evidence.** Inspect reproduction steps, the diff, and passing regression tests before accepting the fix.

## Starter instruction

In the selected repository, reproduce the reported issue before changing code. Identify the smallest responsible component, explain the cause with file references, propose a bounded fix, and add or update a regression test. Do not modify unrelated files, publish, push, or run destructive commands without approval.
